The Haitian process pre-quake was roughly 2 to 2 1/2 years to my understanding.

Thanks for the links, I'll go through them here in a bit.

I guess you could say I'm far less optimistic about the situation, but then, I've seen far too much of it all before.

My mistake. Attribute it to reading too many articles on Haitian "orphans" and too many numbers being thrown around.

The point is, these "rescuers" knew enough about DR law including the sixty day in-country stay for PAPs and that a child over 12 has to consent to their own adoption. The DR process is a little more streamlined compared to Haiti's usual three to four year process. The entire country of Haiti is not in ruins so why not try to find a hotel outside the quake zone in the Haitian boarder instead of renting rooms in DR? Reports are also saying that this group had reps in Haiti prior to the "rescue" yesterday. Email from the co-founder dated 01-15-10 at www.othermother.com.

AP updated the story. Included is a quote from the Haitian Voodoo association and allegation by SOS Children's Village who is caring for the children now that there was an intent to sell them for ten grand each. The churches involved both held press conferences/prayer services for the missionaries in Haitian jails. One of them was moved to a hospital for a diabetic episode, reported on network news (forget which one).

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35162046/ns/world_news-haiti_earthquake/

In other Haitian news, CNN did a story on another Haitian's boy's school whose US director was indicted for sexual abuse.

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/01/31/connecticut.haiti.abuse.charge/

Actually, he was indicted back in September 2009 but more charges have been added just recently. Copy of Sept 2009 indictment here. http://www.margueritelaurent.com/law/DouglasPerlitz.pdf

One thing I think will happen with all this attention on Haiti is the truth will start coming out and eventually, reform will happen. At least I hope it does.
